European country Sweden has formally become a new member of the transatlantic military alliance ‘NATO’. Concerns about Russian aggression in Europe have increased following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christerson has announced this. The North Atlantic Alliance is an intergovernmental military alliance of 32 member states. It was established in the year 1949.

Central American country Panama has officially joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA). Panama has become the 97th member country of ISA. ISA was established as a joint effort of India and France. Currently, 116 countries have signed the ISA Framework Agreement.

President Draupadi Murmu has nominated writer Sudha Murthy to Rajya Sabha. 73-year-old Murthy was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2023. In January, the President had nominated Satnam Singh Sandhu as a Rajya Sabha member. The President can nominate 12 members to the Upper House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first underwater metro in Kolkata. It has been constructed on the Hooghly River in Kolkata. This underwater metro tunnel is part of the East-West Metro Corridor of the city. With the commencement of this phase of Kolkata Metro, Howrah has become the deepest metro station in the country, which is located 32 to 33 meters below the surface.

NLC India Green Energy Limited has signed a power purchase agreement with Gujarat Energy Development Corporation Limited for 600 MW solar power project. The proposed 600 MW solar power project at Khavra Solar Park will be the largest solar power project developed by NLCIL till date.
6. (b) Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh government approved the proposal to set up two units of 800 MW at Anpara at a cost of Rs 8,624 crore in collaboration with Green Hydrogen Policy and NTPC. These decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Green Hydrogen Policy has been set for 5 years.
7. (d) Jharkhand
Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has launched the State Widow Remarriage Promotion Scheme. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the widow who remarries. Recently, the Jharkhand government had presented a budget of Rs 1.28 lakh crore for the financial year 2024-25.

Union Steel and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia virtually inaugurated India’s first green hydrogen plant in the stainless steel sector located at Jindal Stainless Limited, Hisar (Haryana). This project will be the world’s first green hydrogen plant with off-grid green hydrogen plant and roof-top floating solar for the stainless steel industry.
9. (a) Pat Cummins
Before IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Pat Cummins as the new captain of its team. Cummins has replaced Aiden Markram. Cummins was bought by Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore in the mini auction for IPL 2024. Cummins became the second most expensive player to be sold in IPL history.

Tripura’s tribal attire ‘Risa’ has also been given GI tag. Geographical Indication is mainly given to link a product to its region of origin. The famous silver Tarkashi of Cuttack (Odisha) has been given GI tag. Odisha State Cooperative Handicrafts Corporation Limited had requested the GI tag for the famous silver tarkashi on July 1, 2021.
